Abstract

Aim: This overview aims to explore the advancements and applications of facial scanning technology in the field of dentistry, with a focus on its role in diagnostic procedures, treatment planning, and prosthodontic rehabilitation.

Methodology: Recent literature was thoroughly reviewed to gain insights into the integration of facial scanning technology with digital workflows in dentistry, examining both current uses and potential future developments. Published studies were analyzed to assess the impact of facial scanning on clinical practices, particularly in restorative and orthodontic treatments.

Results: The integration of facial scanning technologies has significantly enhanced the precision and efficiency of treatment planning. Key advancements include improved prosthetic design, better facial aesthetic outcomes, and streamlined procedures in both fixed and removable prosthodontics. Despite its promising benefits, challenges such as high costs, sensitivity to environmental factors, and the learning curve for practitioners persist.

Conclusion: Facial scanning technology has proven to be a valuable tool in modern dentistry, offering substantial improvements in clinical outcomes. While its potential is vast, further advancements in AI, machine learning, and software integration are necessary to overcome current limitations. Expanding accessibility and refining the technology will enhance its widespread use, making it an indispensable part of dental practice in the future.
